You're RIGHT! That's my rifle! Guess the total I paid for it was reasonable, I got it free. Here's a pic of one I snagged online, Note the bolt handle. I haven't tried 175s or much load development yet. I will say with 168Gr federal gold medal match mine shot between. The link provided with the TR description may be a good read for you. The initial precise shooter link above though it mentions the TR doesn't show a pic of one.
The 10 TR was a hummer right out of the box. I have been very pleased with all of my LE series Savage rifles. It's the most feature laden factory "tactical" style rifle I've seen and nothing else touches it at the price point and most wont touch it at twice as much or more. Mine however came with a thread protector and no brake. The EGW scope rail included was an additional bonus. More features and several hondos less than what my 10PC cost me. I couldn't pass up the deal when I bought mine for $450 while they were somewhat available. Our Savage serial number lookup allows you to date your vintage rifle. Most sensible thing I've heard is that it was a distributor exclusive. It was an uncatalogued model and all kinds of rumors about it's existence swirled about it. I re read your post and I'm pretty sure you have a 10 TR. The dates are as close as can be identified, but any specific rifle might have been finished months.
I sold the savage (force multiplier was right, it was worth more than $300) and the scope and used the money to pick up a remington 700 sps tactical aac-sd off of the classifieds. The precision carbines I have seen come with a digital camo stock without a beavertail fore end which this one has.įrom the little I can see it looks like a 10 FP or possibly a 10 TR.ĭoes it have a detachable box and a fairly long bolt handle instead of a knob? NOTE: Savage 99s were NOT finished in serial number order. I've never owned a savage before, mostly remignton 700's and one model 70 and decided I wanted another 700. All of that for only $300!!Īfter having the rifle for two days and before making it to the range I decided that I didn't care for the position/style of the safety or the way the bolt felt in the receiver.
308 ammo ranging from silver/brown bear, to S&B, to ultramax remanufactured, to remington corelokts, and a hard case. I ended up buying the Savage with a harris bipod, a cheap BSA scope, a nylon sling, and 253 rounds of cheap.
